Abbey People is looking for someone to join the team in a role that sits at the heart of our work in the community. We’re recruiting a Community Assistant on a 12-month fixed contract, and we’re excited to meet people who enjoy helping others, keeping things organised, and being part of a small and supportive team.
The role is based at The Hub and includes welcoming visitors, answering questions, and helping people get the information they need. You’d also help with enquiries about the Community Centre, arrange viewings, and handle booking forms and other admin linked to the space. The job also includes supporting the team with day-to-day tasks, helping with social media and communications, and keeping office equipment and supplies running smoothly.
A typical week includes front desk cover, monitoring inboxes, processing room hire requests, and helping at community and youth events. You’d also take the lead on our weekly drop-ins and coffee mornings, including planning simple activities for people who attend. Volunteer onboarding is part of the job too.
We’re looking for someone with good communication skills, confidence with Microsoft Office, and the ability to juggle tasks and manage time well. If you have a connection to the Abbey ward in Cambridge, that’s a bonus.
This is a part-time role at 20 hours a week, paid at the Real Living Wage of £12.60 per hour. Working hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 4.30, and Fridays from 8.30 to 2.30. Some occasional evening or weekend work may be needed.
