Christmas can be a difficult time for the most vulnerable in our communities, and this year it is likely to be even tougher due to increased energy costs, food shortages, and the rising cost of living. We were very thankful to everyone who contributed and made our Christmas appeals successful last year and in previous years – whether that was donating gifts for seniors or delivering hampers to local families.
We are running a Christmas hamper appeal again this year and hoping to spread even more Christmas cheer to those most in need. We are looking for donations and practical support from individuals, local organisations and businesses. Can you pledge a hamper (or more) to help?
What is the Christmas Hamper Appeal?
This year we aim to deliver 150 hampers to people in need over the Christmas period. The hampers will include Christmas food, gifts, and for some beneficiaries, store cupboard essentials and household consumables.
Who is it for?
The hampers are for families, seniors and single adults either in financial need, or experiencing isolation.
When does it take place?
We will be taking pledges for the hampers until Friday 3rd November. We will contact you by Friday 10th November to inform you of relevant information relating to the family you have been allocated.
How can I get involved?
Pledge a hamper
To donate a hamper, complete our online form here, email us at info@abbeypeople.org.uk, or ring us at 01223 211945.
Once we’ve matched your offer with a resident/family we will be in touch with details of the recipient(s).
Then all you need to do is make up your hamper, either individually, as a family, or with friends or colleagues, and we will let you know about arrangements for dropping off.
Please feel free to get creative with your wrapping and hamper decoration – a great looking hamper really shows people they are valued.
Your hampers will be delivered by our volunteer drivers over the Christmas period, alongside emergency food supplies, where needed.
Deliver some cheer
It takes a lot of drivers to deliver all the hampers, so if you own a car and would be happy to gift some time delivering, please get in touch via info@abbeypeople.org.uk or ring 01223 211945.
Partner with us
We’d love to hear from local organisations and businesses that would like to support the appeal in other ways:
- helping to recruit drivers,
- supporting the appeal co-ordination,
- nominating families,
- donating store cupboard goods to accompany the Christmas hampers
