Changes to CoFarm veg at Abbey Food Hub

For the past four years, CoFarm and Cambridge Sustainable Food have been generously supplying us with locally grown produce for free at the Food Hub. This has supported us enormously during the Covid and Cost of Living crises, meaning we had enough veg to share at sessions. Giving out this veg for free is not financially sustainable and is not something that can continue forever. However, we are working closely with CoFarm to come up with a way to still have their incredible produce as part of the Food Hub offering, that is affordable for everyone in the community.

CoFarm veg trial

From 7th August and beyond, we will be trialling selling CoFarm veg as part of The Pantry. What will this look like?

  • For CoFarmers and people struggling to make ends meet, a 50% discount will be available.
  • For those who can afford the full price, this contribution means that others in the community, who cannot afford it, can access the produce.

We believe that everyone in the community should be able to access food that is both good for us and the planet. This trial will help us to explore whether this is something that can work longer-term in Abbey, so your thoughts, participation and feedback are really important to this process.

Practical info:

  • Cash and card payments accepted
  • The first 30 minutes of sessions tend to have a long queue, so it’s recommended that you come later in the session if you just want CoFarm veg and you’re short of time.

More about CoFarm:

CoFarm is a community farm off Barnwell Road, less than a mile from the Food Hub.

“CoFarm bring people together to grow and share nutritious food, build stronger communities and healthier ecosystems.”

Some of the great things about their produce is that it’s:

  • Organically grown, so better for us and the planet
  • Locally grown in Abbey, meaning food metres not miles!
  • Grown by a team of incredible volunteers, or ‘CoFarmers’
  • Plastic-free produce

Want to know more about them? Chat to a member of the CoFarm team at the following Wednesday Food Hub sessions:

7,14, 21 Aug 3:30-5:30pm

This trial is in partnership with CoFarm, Cambridge Sustainable Food and with thanks to Cambridge City Council for funding as part of their Focus on Abbey grants
