Abbey People announces new partnership with Genie Ventures

Abbey People is delighted to welcome Genie Ventures as a new partner.

Genie Ventures has been part of Cambridge since 2008. The company, based on Hills Road, employs around 65 people and generates £30m in annual revenue. Over the years, it has grown into a collection of successful ecommerce brands:

  • Broadband Genie – a national broadband comparison website helping millions of people switch and save.
  • Genie Shopping – an online shopping platform powering ads for more than 600 retailers, including eBay, Currys, Boots and B&Q.
  • Genie Goals – an independent digital marketing agency helping retailers grow in an AI world.

The connection to Abbey is also a personal one. Genie co-founder Ciaron Dunne has lived in Abbey since 2003, and fellow co-founder Paul Goodwin has also been a resident for 20 years. Over that time, Ciaron has been involved with Abbey People in different ways, from volunteering to supporting as a long-time donor.

“I’ve lived here for over 20 years and I’m a big fan of the area. Abbey doesn’t always get the best reputation in Cambridge, but we’ve got so much going for us – housing, river meadows, a football club, a swimming pool – and most importantly, the best people. Abbey People’s focus on impact and driving change, not just offering support, is deeply impressive. We’ve seen the difference local efforts can make, and we’re proud to be part of it.” – Ciaron, Genie Ventures

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Genie Ventures. Having a local business so rooted in Abbey and committed to making a difference means a lot to us. Their support will help us grow our impact, connect with more people, and shine a light on all the good that’s happening here. We’re looking forward to working with Ciaron and the whole Genie team to build on the strengths of our community.” – Nicky Shepard, Abbey People

This new partnership builds on Genie’s purpose of “Make an Impact” and sits alongside other community and charity work with Camfed and Cambridge United FC Women.

As part of the collaboration, Genie Ventures will provide financial support, but the partnership goes further. Ciaron will attend Abbey People trustee meetings, offering strategic advice and encouragement. Staff will also have opportunities to get involved whether that’s volunteering, sharing skills, or taking part in community events.

For Abbey People, the relationship brings more than just resources. As a local tech business, Genie Ventures hopes to help raise the profile of Abbey People, connect with new partners, and support efforts to make Abbey an even better place to live.
