The Galfrid School and Abbey People have joined together to encourage our neighbours, (that’s you!) to get reading throughout April and May.
It doesn’t matter how young or old you are – here in Abbey we believe it’s never too late (or too early) to spring into reading. As a community we’re going to try and bank ONE MILLION MINUTES of reading in 6 weeks this spring!
Maybe you have a child at home who is just starting out with phonics. Maybe you haven’t picked up a book for years. Maybe you’d love to have help with your own literacy skills. Or maybe you would enjoy reading a story to someone else. It all counts and we’re here to help you get started.
So, make sure you have your bookmark handy! Bookmarks can be collected from The Hub, or The Food Hub, and students at the Galfrid School can pick them up there. In addition, they can be collected from the Barnwell Road Library who will also have a special Spring in to Reading loyalty card that will be stamped each time you visit.
How to take part.
- Read a book, comic, newspaper or anything you enjoy.
- Use the bookmark or note down to recall the time spent reading.
- Log your minutes by returning your bookmarks to the collection points during opening times at The Hub, 15 Barnwell Road or The Food Hub, Newmarket Road or add your time online via the form below.
We want to get people of all ages reading and there are a number of prizes on offer for residents of all ages and abilities. The winners will be announced in June and invited to a small celebration.
We welcome prize donations from businesses so if you would like to get involved, please get in touch.
The Spring into Reading celebration runs 3rd April – 26th May.
Please log your minutes to be in with a chance of winning a prize.
Thank you for taking part.
